Asda Forced To Apologise For Discount Mistake

UK retailer Asda was forced to apologise to its customers last week, after the supermarket mistakenly offered online shoppers a whopping £75 discount on their bills.

Last Saturday, a computer malfunction on the retailer’s online shopping system resulted in all first time shoppers being allowed to take advantage of the large discount.
The retailer spotted the mistake within two hours, but by that point, some shoppers had already made use of the discount and placed orders.

Customers were later informed of the error, and were told that either they paid the full cost for their shopping when it arrived, or they would have to cancel their order, and would be required to return the items ordered back to the store.

According to an Asda spokesperson, only a very small number of shoppers had been affected by the mistake.

“It goes without saying that we are sorry,” she said. “We’re bending over backwards to recompense the small number of shoppers who wrongly got the discount voucher . We’ll give them a free delivery and a discount off their next asda.com shopping .”
