Asda Trials Can Recycling Scheme

UK retailer Asda has embarked on a can recycling programme trial, which will be rolled out across 49 of its stores in the Northwest of England.
Asda is partnering up with Every Can Counts, which itself is a partnership between drinks can manufacturers, the recycling industry and waste management companies, established to be be more environmentally sustainable through the recycling of drinks cans.
The new scheme is part of a wider plan by Asda to get people to recycle more and to send zero waste to landfill by the end of 2010.
Asda waste and recycling manager Jonathan Wylie said: “We believe it is important that we make it as easy as possible for our colleagues to recycle. We look forward to seeing a successful trial in Lancashire and then rolling out the programme to our other stores across the country.”
The project will be administered by Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation and is financed by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
If the pilot is successful, then Asda intends to roll the scheme out across all its stores in the UK.
